Promoting Youth Activities with G-Scale Trains
Making Trains Fun hosts youth clinics at train shows or conventions. The youth clinics are for children between the ages of 6 and 16. Each participant is given a USA Trains flat car and then they can select many different items to build a load on their car. Once complete, they have the opportunity to see the flat car run on a track pulled by a locomotive. At some events, we will also have a wooden building for the children to paint and setup up a diorama. At the end of each clinic, the children can take the flat car and/or building home with them.
At the 40th NGRC convention in Sacramento, CA in June 2025, Matt Abreu gave us a custom painted USA Trains GP38-2 for us to use at the Making Trains Fun youth clinics to pull the flat cars with loads for the children. This is a wonderful addition to the program as we are very appreciative. Thank you, Matt, for the beautiful locomotive and your support of the program.
USA Trains is partnering with Making Trains Fun by providing flat cars used in the youth clinics. Making Trains Fun is very appreciative and thanks Mr. Charlie Ro, Jr. for his support and generosity. We had a over 160 children in the flat car clinics in 2025.
